What is postural massage

Postural massage is a gentle body work. It aims to reestablish the natural alignment and structural Integration of the body for vitality and well-being. It works by re-educating posture and movement.

Based in particular on the theory and practice of yoga and osteopathy, this approach, like osteopathy, states that "structure governs function". Thus, the health of the various bodily functions would depend, for a large part, on the health of the musculoskeletal structure. The particularity of postural massage is that it focuses its intervention on the network of soft and connective tissues. One could say that it is thanks to them that the body "holds together".



Relieve pain and educate the body

Postural massage is for people who want to be relieved of musculoskeletal pain or who wish to improve their body fluency. But any work of realignment must be accompanied by new habits of posture and movement. In addition to the work done on the table with a massage, you may be required to practice some exercises or, at the very least, a change in postural habits. Otherwise, the connective tissue may resume its "bad folds" in the short or long term. It is my role to raise awareness of bad habits and to suggest new behaviors.

Undo the blockages

When I restore the balance of body structure with the massage, it would have a positive influence on health in general, and also on psychological well-being. In fact, it is said that this intervention leads to a profound inner change by allowing the old blockages to be undone. The word "blocking" is here seen in a holistic perspective where physiological tensions have their psychological correspondences. The benefits most often mentioned are more flexible and easy movements, the feeling of being lighter, a more relaxed body, a greater reserve of energy and a greater dynamism. Only a structure in which the elements are in their place can play its role effectively. Even though the connective tissues are in a state of permanent reorganization, the body is "conservative, It keeps printed the trauma of its little history - injuries, tensions, diseases - as well as persistent attitudes, like keeping your head leaning out of shyness. Not to mention the inevitable gravitational force that makes everything collapse, one day after another. The tissues, therefore, contract, shrivel, harden. It also happens that they lose their viscosity and adhere to each other, thus impeding the mobility of muscles, which reduces the general motility.


Palpate, press and oscillate systematically

To restore the body's alignment and flexibility, I will use very gentle techniques of mobilisation. This work is accomplished by a variety of palpations, slow pressures and more or less vigorous manipulations, which would never be uncomfortable. It involves a lot of oscillatory techniques, smoothing, massaging, kneading, tamping,  with the fingers and palms, with the fists and elbows - especially to stretch and soften the connective tissue. And most importantly, the cranio sacral touch. The whole body goes from the top of the head to the soles of the feet, through the gums, armpits and pelvic floor. I will indirectly give new "information" to the body. For example, a person who always uses the outside of his soles may be surprised by the sensations that a "normal" feeling gives him/her following a postural massage. With many muscles involved (and in tension) in unbalanced postures, muscle reorganization can be felt in places far removed from the original problem.
